Overview What is Symantec Web Email Protection? Someone has sent you a secure message with Symantec Web Email Protection. Secure messages are encrypted to ensure the privacy of the communication. You can read and send the secure messages without installing any software on your computer. Symantec Web Email Protection securely stores these messages that you read and reply to via a browser. Once you have received the first secured message from an email belonging to the domain using Symantec Web Email Protection, you can use Symantec Web Email Protection to send and receive secured messages to and from any s belonging to the same domain of the original sender. For example, if you get such a message from the email address
[email protected] (example.com is the domain), then you can use Symantec Web Email Protection to send and receive secure messages to any email ending with "@example.com". Your use of Symantec Web Email Protection does not affect the rest of your regular email communication. What can I do with Symantec Web Email Protection? You can read, reply to, and send secured messages to individuals belonging to an organization uses Symantec Web Email Protection. You choose how you want to receive the messages, and you can change your phrase. What is a phrase and how is it different from a ? phrases are similar to s, but are more secure. Use a phrase the same way you use a . Your phrase should be an easy-to- phrase, or string of words, that uses at least one of each of these: a lowercase letter, and uppercase letter, a number, and a punctuation mark. Messages are secured automatically; you do not have to take any manual actions to use Symantec Encryption Satellite. Future email messages from this domain will be encrypted using your key or certificate and sent to your regular email Inbox. PDF Email Protection: Have all future email delivered by PDF Email Protection directly to your regular email Inbox. Plain text email sent to you from this domain is converted to PDF format and encrypted to your phrase, then delivered as an attachment to an email generated by Symantec Web Email Protection. If you choose this option, can specify whether to save your reply messages written with Symantec PDF Email Protection Secure Reply to a Sent Mail folder. If you decline to save replies to a Sent Mail folder, they appear as PDF Email Protection messages in your regular email inbox. Regular Email: Receive all future messages from senders in this domain unsecured, directly into your regular email Inbox. How do I send a message? Click "Compose". In the "To:" text box, type in the email address of the person to whom you want to send a message. In the "Subject" text box, type in a subject for your message. Type your message into the text box under the subject. When you are finished, click "Send".
How do I cancel sending? If you decide you do not want to send the message you have been writing, click "Cancel". However, once a message has been sent, it cannot be cancelled.
How do I send to more than one person? When writing a message, you can add more than one email address to the "To:" and "CC:" text boxes. Anyone added to either text box receives the message. Mulitple addresses in either text must be separated by commas or semi-colons.
How do I read my messages? From your "Inbox", click the message you want to read. When you are finished, click "Inbox" to return to the list of messages or to check for new messages.
How do I attach a file to a message? Click "Add attachment". The Attachments dialog box appears. Use this dialog box to find and attach files. Click "OK" when you are finished adding attachments.
How do I delete a message? Select the check box next to the message, and then click "Delete".
How to Use Your Own Key Choose the delivery method "Key or digital ID/certificate".
How do I a key? From the Secure Messaging Settings page, select "Key or digital ID/certificate". To import a key file, click "Import a Key File", and then click "Choose File" and browse to find your key (.asc format for PGP keys, .pem or .crt formats for X.509 certificates, .p7b or .p7c formats for PKCS #7, or .p12 or .pfx formats for PKCS #12 certificates). If your key or certificate has a phrase, type it into the "phrase" text box. To paste in your key or certificate, select "Import Key Block". Open your key file or certificate, copy the contents, and then paste the contents of your key into the "Import Key Block" section of Symantec Web Email Protection. Click "Continue". Follow the instructions on the page to be able to encrypt, decrypt and messages.

Troubleshooting I tried to send a message using Symantec Web Email Protection and this error appeared: "The following addresses were not in the original recipient list and are not managed by this Symantec Encryption Server." If you are replying to a message, you can only send it to people who were on the original message's recipient list. If you are writing a new message, you can only send messages to people who already have keys stored by Symantec Web Email Protection, these are probably limited to individuals within the same network domain. For example, if the original message you received was from
[email protected], other people with email addresses ending "@example.com" probably also have keys stored here. People with email addresses outside the domain probably do not have keys stored here.
