(from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons) A Late Elem. to Early Intermediate Piano Solo by Carol Matz

I'm sure that I'm giving away my age (you all know I'm 25 anyways)...but when I was in high school, I went to see the movie "The Four Seasons" with Alan Alda and Carol Burnett. The movie's soundtrack featured Vivaldi's music, tracing a group of friends dealing with the changes in their lives throughout the year. I loved this movie... but I was already deeply into Bach (especially the Brandenburg Concertos) and I kinda "turned up my nose" at Vivaldi's work, thinking it didn't have the same depth as Bach. I will say that Vivaldi's music has grown on me over the years. Maybe his music is a bit more "accessible" to a wider audience than Bach, but that's a plus! I've found myself enjoying more programmatic music, possibly because writing for students has led me to think so much about imagery in music. Whatever the reason, I know that my students are always psyched to play "Spring!" Enjoy ~ Carol
