Mrs Bixby and the Colonel’s Coat Paula Muñoz Summary This story is about a dentist called Cyril Bixby, a decent clean-living man and his wife Mrs Bixby an ambitious and selfish woman. Mrs. Bixby leaves home once a month to visit her aunt in Baltimore, but the truth is that she spends the time with her lover, the Colonel. The entire problem started when she received a parting gift from the Colonel, an extremely beautiful and valuable mink coat but it also has a note explaining that their relationship has to end. Anyway, Mrs Bixby didn’t care about the relationship with the Colonel; she was extremely happy and, at the same time, worried about her new possession. She had to think a credible story she can tell her husband about where she obtained it. She decided to visit a pawnbroker. She gave him $50 for the coat and she received a blank ticket in return, after that she tell her husband that she found the ticket in the back seat of a taxi. She managed to send her husband for the coat in order to not be recognised by the pawnbroker. But all her plan got wrong. Too eager to wait, she went to her husband’s office to pick up her coat but to her surprise he only gave her a ridiculous fur neckpiece. She only repeated to herself that she had to come back to the shop and recover her coat. On her way she realised that Mrs Pulteney, her husband’s secretaryassistant, was wearing her beautiful mink coat. Immediately she realised that her husband cheated on her too.
