COMPANY OVERVIEW Siemens was founded by Werner von Siemens on 12th October 1847. His invention was based on a telegraph but instead of using Morse code he used a needle to point a sequence of letters. In 1848, the company built first long-distance telegraph line in Europe. 500 km from Berlin to Frankfurt am Main.

COMPANY OVERVIEW Nowadays Siemens is the largest engineering conglomerate in Europe. The company has 15 divisions, however, main business sectors are: Industry, Energy and Healthcare. Siemens and its subsidiaries employ approximately 420,800 people in nearly 190 countries and reported a global revenue of 76.651 billions Euros in 2009.

Telecommunications Engineer

Telecommunications engineering is a major field within electronic engineering. The work ranges from basic circuit design to strategic mass developments. A telecommunication engineer is responsible for deg and overseeing the installation of telecommunications equipment and facilities, such as complex electronic switching systems, copper telephone facilities, and fiber optics. Telecom engineering also overlaps heavily with broadcast engineering.

Competency profile Telecommunication engineer will be capable of monitoring and managing a maintenance group or region engaged in the maintenance of signaling equipment through direct actions or through delegated actions to ensure compliance with organizational and legislative requirements. Most telecommunication engineers are well versed in engineering and often hold degrees in engineering. Courses that are fundamental to the field are math and physics with particular emphasis on circuitry and mechanical engineering.

Competency profile Some telecommunication engineers start off as installers or repair workers and work their way up to engineers and supervisors. Many who hold a degree in science or engineering can land a job as an entry level telecommunication engineer, but many companies prefer to hire someone with experience, notably with at least 5 years experience in FCC/FAA regulation, microwave systems, telecommunication engineering and design.
