Since our inception in 1994, Baynunah Laboratories has provided geotechnical engineering services for numerous projects, large and small, for a spectrum of clients and projects sites that range from local homeowners to governmental agencies and large corporations with interests extending across the country and internationally. Geotechnical Services Soil and Rock Mechanics

Laboratory Testing Geotechnical Laboratories are equipped to perform tests including consolidation, swell, falling head and constant head permeability, unconfined compression, direct shear, triaxial shear and resilient modulus on remolded and undisturbed samples.

Foundation Analysis Parameters from field and laboratory tests are used to calculate foundation bearing capacity, foundation settlement, vertical pile capacity, capacity of dynamically loaded foundation and dewatering methods

EQUIPMENT & FACILITIES Baynunah Laboratories has performed subsurface investigations using boreholes drilled by using a wide variety of equipment, test pits, test trenches, Cone Penetration Tests, and geophysical surveys. We have an in-house soil testing laboratory where we perform common engineering tests and other specialized tests. Geotechnical investigation works are ed by a certified and highly proficient materials laboratory located within the premises of the Head Office. The laboratory is well equipped with facilities necessary for conducting tests on a wide range of foundation materials, subgrade soil and construction materials including soils, aggregates, cement, water quality, bitumen and preparation of asphalt and cement concrete mix designs for various classes of strength. The materials testing laboratory is computerized, well-equipped with modern testing equipment and qualified manpower. Laboratory test results are issued in concise computer generated formats and graphics with supplemental data acquisition reports available upon request. Geophysical surveys works are equip with SYSCAL Pro Resistivity meters and it’s been used in this study. The system is designed for high productivity resistivity and IP measurements. It features some high output capabilities allowing to work in any field conditions for groundwater exploration and for civil engineering or environment applications. The output current can be automatically adjusted to optimize the input voltage values and ensure the best measurement quality. The system offers also the possibility to inject the current with a voltage specified by the operator. Marine application: a specific mode allows the system to be used for continuous logging, especially dedicated to marine applications; in that mode, a GPS can be directly connected to the unit by a serial link for a continuous recording of the location of the 10 channels all along the profile; a set of 10 resistivities is measured and stored approximately every 2 seconds. In that case, specific cables are supplied to fit to that environment. A specific remote PC software can be used for data storage and for a graphical picturing in real time of the resistivity pseudosection.

CAPACITY Geophysical Surveying: To understand the ground you plan to build on, Baynunah Laboratories relies on geophysics investigative phases: geophysical survey analyzing the surface and subsurface of your future structural plan: Professional Evaluation: Baynunah Laboratories’ licensed engineers review all field and raw data,. Also, we analyze surface and subsurface of the ground. The main purpose of this study was to detect and identify the underground subsurface structures such as cavities and weak zones likely to be encountered in the study area Methods of Survey: An electrical resistivity survey is based on the principle of rock material acting as a resistor in a circuit. The basic idea behind the electrical geophysical method is that different geologic materials have different electrical properties. The layers in the subsurface can be identified on the basis of these properties. An electrical current is induced into the ground. The ability of that material to resist the current is measured. Because different materials exhibit characteristic resistivity values, they can be distinguished by using this method. Factors that affect the resistivity are degree of fluid saturation, porosity, pore-fluid content, temperature, salinity, and thickness of clay or sand layers. Soils are more conductive than rocks, and saturated clays are more conductive than dry sands. Changes in pore water salinity also have great impact on ground conductivity. Applications of the electrical resistivity method include locating aquifers, salt water intrusions, and other ground water contamination problems. They can characterize bedrock by locating weathered zones, fractures or voids attributed to solution activity or determine depth to bedrock, and thickness of clay or sand layers
