How Ex Servicemen should choose post preference The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced the exam date of Common Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) 2016 to start from 8th of May, 2016 for recruitment to 30 Grade “B” and Grade “C” posts in various Ministries and Departments of Government of India. The last date of application is 5:00 pm on 10th March 2016 for Part I registration and 5:00 pm on 14th March 2016 for Part II registration. One of the most important part of completing the Part I registration is filling in your post preference. This is the order of posts for which you would like to be considered for recruitment, based on your marks in Tier I and Tier II written exams of this SSC recruitment drive. Thus, the first post preference code implies that you would like to be considered first for that, and if you clear the cut off, then be provided recruitment for that post. Thus, if the post that you qualify for is ranked low, then it may just get filled by other candidates who have ranked it higher. Therefore, this priority ranking of Posts is a very important factor that needs considerable thought before mentioning. Also, it is to be noted that once Part I registration has been completed, you will not be able to change this post preference order.
The scope of this article is to provide constructive information for all the Ex Servicemen category candidates to help them make a proper decision on post preference. The other categories, for this SSC recruitment 2016, apart from Ex. Servicemen, are UR/ General, ST, OBC, SC, and Physically handicapped. While deciding for the same, the following factors are the most important to consider: 1. Job Profile : the job profile includes the position or the post, the department that the post is attached to and the salary. Of these three, the first two are subjective criteria, and therefore, these will just be stated as it is. All subjective criteria can be used to re-sort the ranking list after getting a ranking based on objective criteria. Salary is an objective criteria, where we assume that the preference should be higher for all candidates, if the salary for the post is higher. Therefore, salary has been provided a rating from 1 to 5, where 5 is the highest salary, and 1 the lowest. 2. Availability of Post : this is an important factor to consider as, over the years, the number of vacancies are not the same for all posts and category of students. There are some which enjoy a larger proportion of the total vacancies and some which have not had a single vacancy over the last three years for which the final results are available (SSC CGL 2012 – 2014). Therefore, it is always in your interest to figure out the Posts for which there are maximum chances of vacancies, so that you can keep them at a higher preference, and Posts that have very low chances or number of vacancies to be kept at the lowest preference. Therefore, the two metrics we use for this are : a. Average number of Vacancies (ANuV) : these have been provided a rating from 1 to 5, where 5 implies the highest average vacancies (> 1000) for years 2012 to 2014 and 1 implies lowest average vacancies (<260). eclonline.com years have not been provided a rating. b. Frequency of Vacancies (FoV) : is the number of times, between 2012 and 2014, there have been some vacancies for the Post. This provides us with a higher probability that the post will again have some vacancies this year, if, it has been having vacancies over the last few years. This criteria has a rating of 1 to 3, where, 3 implies that there have been vacancies in each of the three years, and 1 implies the Post has had vacancies in only one of the three years. 3. Ease of getting recruited (Ease) : is a rating from 1 to 5, where, 5 implies lowest amount of competition to get recruited for the post and 1 implies highest amount of competition. This is on the basis of cut offs. The lower the cut off, the higher the ease of recruitment. The table below provides all the above information in respective columns. Additional information included is the Post Code (to help you fill your ranking criteria) and the Preference Rank. The Preference Rank is simply the addition of all the objective rankings discussed in points 1 and 2 above. Also, the list has been sorted such that the highest ranking is at the top and the lowest ranking is at the bottom.
NOTE: There are some words of caution in using the table below: 1. Please check your eligibility for SSC CGLE 2016 before deciding the priority order for the posts. Only consider the posts you shall be eligible for. 2. You can (infact, should) use subjectivity in changing the order provided below as per your preference. For eg. If you are a graduate in Statistics, then you should consider bringing Statistical Investigator Grade II to the top of your list, or if you feel that you are likely to be amongst the top students, then you should select the posts with highest salary rating or as per your job profile preference on the top. 3. There is one post, Assistant Audit Officer, (post code : F), in Indian Audit and s Department under CAG, that has been introduced for the first time in SSC CGL. This post commands the highest salary and requires Paper IV, General Studies (Finance & Economics) to be taken in Tier II exam. We expect the competition to low to mid for this position this year. Thus, if you have had anything to do with finance or economics like a CA / MBA (Finance) / M. Com / Masters in Economics, etc, you should definitely put this at the top of your preference. 4. Another post, Sub Inspector, NIA (post code %) is a new addition by the Staff Selection Commission in this year’s CGLE. For this also, only the salary rating has been provided. You need to judge if and where you wish to put it in your priority. 5. There are 13 of 30 posts which have not had any vacancies for Ex Servicemen category candidates in the last few years.
