Science Fair Project Research Booklet Outline 1.Title Page a. Do not put “title page” on your title sheet project b. Title needs to be in the form of a question c. Name, Period, Teacher, and date must be types at the bottom right hand side of the page d. This page is not numbered 2. Abstract a. Label this page Abstract; this page is not numbered b. This page is written after you have completed your experiment and is the summary of the experiment c. This is written in the past tense d. This page should be between 150-200 words e. Do not use the word “I” anywhere on the page f. This should answer 3 basic questions 1. What is the purpose of your experiment? 2. Give a summary of your experiment. 3. What were the results of your experiment? 3. Table of Contents This page should be headed with Contents. Be sure to number all pages and put your booklet together in the following order. 5. Header page Research a. This page should be numbered and Research should be written on it 6. Research a. No heading b. All pages should be numbered (this should match your table of contents!) c. Double space, 12 font, ½ inch margins d. At least 3 pages long e. Spelling grammar, punctuation, and neatness will count f. Every new topic should be a new paragraph, be sure to indent 7. Hypothesis a. This page should be headed Hypothesis at the top of the page b. Only 1 sentence long c. Must be an IF, THEN statement d. This tells what you think will happen in your experiment or what you are trying to prove e. Do not use “I” 8. Header Page Experiment a. This page should be numbered and Experiment should be written on it 9. Materials a. This page should be headed Materials at the top of the page b. This should be listed in list form and all supplies used must be listed 10. Procedure a. This page should be headed Procedure at the top of the page b. You should begin each step taken with a verb (for ex: place, water, observe) c. Can be in paragraph form, however if there are numerous steps, each step must be numbered and in list order 11. Data and Observation a. This page should be headed Data and Observation at the top of the page b. You should explain all of the things you have seen c. This page should include a chart or graph d. Each chart or graph MUST have a minimum 1 paragraph explanation under it e. Photos may be used as well, but must state who took the photos (researcher, researcher’s parents etc) f. Number each chart and or graph (chart #1, graph #1 etc)

12. Analysis a. This page should be headed Analysis at the top of the page b. In a paragraph, compare the results of the experiment with your hypothesis 1. The results showed…. 2. Therefore my hypothesis was (correct/incorrect) and state why it was incorrect and prove it by using your data c. Do not use “I” 13. Conclusion a. This page should be headed Conclusion at the top of the page b. Written in a paragraph form, tell the results of your experiment and what you learned c. Do not use “I” 14. Application a. This page should be headed Application at the top of the page b. In a paragraph why is this experiment important? Who would want to know the results and who could benefit from it? c Do not use “I” 15. Recommendations a. This page should be headed Recommendations at the top of the page b. This section should answer the following questions 1. What new ideas have you learned from your experiment? (if any) 2. What part of your experiment would you like to learn more about? 3. What problems did you have? (For example, if this project were to be repeated what changes would you suggest) c. Be sure that each question is a separate paragraph 16. Bibliography a. This page should be headed Bibliography at the top of the page b. Be sure to use the correct format and that all entries are in alphabetical order c. You must site ALL information that was used for research 17. Acknowledgments a. This page should be headed Acknowledgments at the top of the page b. These “thank you’s” should be written in paragraph form 18. Appendix a. This page should be headed Appendix at the top of the page b. This page is optional, if you do not include you must delete it from your table of contents c. Include drawings, pamphlets, letters photos etc.
