The Maharashtra Employment Guarantee Act, 1977 has been ed to make effective provisions for securing the right to work by guaranteeing employment to all adult persons who volunteer to do unskilled manual work in rural areas in the State of Maharashtra. The section 6 A of the said Act imparts all supervisory powers to the Commissioner in respect of E.G.S.work within the jurisdiction of the division and powers of supervision and review implementation are delegated to Commissioner. By virtue of these powers the Commissioner is competent to issue directions to the Collectors, other officers (including Divisional Level Officers) Local authorities and other schemes and for which the Collectors, other officers local authorities and other bodies in the Division are responsible and subordinate to Commissioner to such extent as Govt. may direct.
Powers are exercised as "Commissioner" only.

Note :Powers under the Employment Guarantee Act as stated above have been delegated to the Commissioner. Further for the proper implementation of the Scheme following powers are also delegated to the Commissioner. •

To santion establishment of various departments like Forest, Agriculture, Public Works etc. for the Scarcity period only and that too on Work Charge establishment.

To assist the Commissioner in proper implementation of the Scheme, Inspection & Supervisory cell is created in the Commissioner's office. The Cell also decide work of coordination and monitoring of the E.G.S.in the various districts.
