Check the control
When you want the camera to be fully automatic, be s u r e a l l t h e s w i t c h e sa r e i n a r o w a s s h o w n i n p i c t u r e2 . Note: When the switches are not in the automatic mode, there is a red mark (or green symbol for the s e l f - t i m e r )v i s i b l e o n t h e p a n e l .
Load the film (pictures 5 & 6)
Use only Polaroid Spectra color film. Other Polaroid films cannot be used with this camera. P u s h t h e f i l m d o o r r e l e a s ed o w n . T h e f i l m d o o r w i l l open. Hold the film pack by its edges only and slide it all the way into the camera.
Position your subject
You can take the most pleasing pictures of people, both indoors and outdoors, when they are 3 to 5 feet (.9m to 1.5m) away. Indoors: Your subjectshould be within the 2 to 15 foot ( . 6 m t o 4 . 6 m ) f l a s h r a n g e . F o r b e s t r e s u l t s ,y o u r s u b j e c t s h o u l d a l s o b e n e a r a l i g h t - c o l o r e db a c k g r o u n d . Outdoors: Your subject should be at least 2 feet (.6m) away from the camera.

Slide your left hand through the hand strap and hold the camera as you would a pair of binoculars. F o r h o r i z o n t a lp i c t u r e s ,h o l d t h e c a m e r a a s s h o w n i n p i c t u r e 7 . To remove an empty film pack (pictures 5 & 9)
After you take the tenth picture, the picture counter setsto zero and three chimes sound to remind you to remove the empty film pack. P u s h t h e f i l m d o o r r e l e a s ed o w n t o o p e n t h e f i l m d o o r . Pull the blue tab to remove the film pack. When the camera contains an empty film pack: You will hearthree chimes when you open the camera You will hear three chimes and then see a flashing zero in the viewfinder when you pressand hold the shutter button halfway

The autofocus system
As you press the shutter button, your camera sends sound waves - within 10 thousandths of a second - to t h e c e n t r a l p a r t o f t h e s c e n e ( a p p r o x i m a t ea r e a c i r c l e d in white, see illustration). T h e s o u n d w a v e s a r e u s e d t o m e a s u r e t h e d i s t a n c et o the person or object (in the central part of the scene) that is closest to the camera. A b u i l t - i n c o m p u t e r t h e n u s e s t h i s m e a s u r e m e n tt o provide the correct lens setting, so be sure that: The sound waves must have a clear path to your subject. lf an object (candlestick,centerpiece,etc.) prev e n t s t h e s o u n d w a v e s f r o m r e a c h i n g y o u r s u b j e c t ,t h e lens will focus on that object,and your subjectwill not be clear and in focus. When photographing more than one person,place everyone the same distance from the camera. W h e n t a k i n g a p i c t u r e t h r o u g h g l a s s ,t u r n o f f t h e a u t o focus system.

The viewfinder displays
When you have a film pack in the camera and press the shutter button halfway, a display appears in the v i e w f i n d e r t o h e l p y o u t a k e t h e b e s t p o s s i b l ep i c t u r e . The good picture symbol
When you see a green "good picture" symbol, the c o n d i t i o n s a r e r i g h t f o r t a k i n g a g o o d p i c t u r e .P r e s st h e shutter button the rest of the way. When you see a flashing yellow "caution" symbol and hear a warning tone, you should correct a problem b e f o r e t a k i n g t h e p i c t u r e .T h e d i s t a n c e r e a d i n g w i l l h e l p y o u i d e n t i f yt h e p r o b l e m . Blurry picture
Gause . When subject is not cent e r e d i n t h e p i c t u r e ,t h e sound waves by the subject and measurethe distance to the backg r o u n d . T h i s c a u s e st h e subjectto be unsharp becausethe lens focuses on the background.
Object in foreground prevented sound waves from measuring correctly. Lens focuses on object, causi n g u n c l e a ra n d p o s s i b l y dark subject.
. When picture is taken in l o w l i g h t ( d u s k ,s h a d e , etc.) shutter can stay open for as long as 2.8 s e c o n d s .C a m e r a m o v e m e n t c a n c a u s et h e p i c ture to be blurry.

Solution . Center the subject in the picture. Or, if you want to keep your subject off center, frame your subject in the middle of the v i e w f i n d e r . P r e s sa n d hold the shutter button halfway to lock in the corr e c t l e n s s e t t i n g .T h e n reframe your subject off center and pressthe shutter button the rest of the way. . The sound waves travel to the central part of the scene.Be sure there are no objects in front of your subject.

Position your subject
You can take the most pleasing pictures of people, both indoors and outdoors, when they are 3 to 5 feet (.9m to 1.5m) away. The autofocus system
As you press the shutter button, your camera sends sound waves - within 10 thousandths of a second - to t h e c e n t r a l p a r t o f t h e s c e n e ( a p p r o x i m a t ea r e a c i r c l e d in white, see illustration). T h e s o u n d w a v e s a r e u s e d t o m e a s u r e t h e d i s t a n c et o the person or object (in the central part of the scene) that is closest to the camera. A b u i l t - i n c o m p u t e r t h e n u s e s t h i s m e a s u r e m e n tt o provide the correct lens setting, so be sure that: The sound waves must have a clear path to your subject. lf an object (candlestick,centerpiece,etc.) prev e n t s t h e s o u n d w a v e s f r o m r e a c h i n g y o u r s u b j e c t ,t h e lens will focus on that object,and your subjectwill not be clear and in focus. Gause . When subject is not cent e r e d i n t h e p i c t u r e ,t h e sound waves by the subject and measurethe distance to the backg r o u n d . T h i s c a u s e st h e subjectto be unsharp becausethe lens focuses on the background.
Object in foreground prevented sound waves from measuring correctly. Lens focuses on object, causi n g u n c l e a ra n d p o s s i b l y dark subject.
. When picture is taken in l o w l i g h t ( d u s k ,s h a d e , etc.) shutter can stay open for as long as 2.8 s e c o n d s .C a m e r a m o v e m e n t c a n c a u s et h e p i c ture to be blurry.

Solution . Center the subject in the picture. Or, if you want to keep your subject off center, frame your subject in the middle of the v i e w f i n d e r . P r e s sa n d hold the shutter button halfway to lock in the corr e c t l e n s s e t t i n g .T h e n reframe your subject off center and pressthe shutter button the rest of the way. . The sound waves travel to the central part of the scene.Be sure there are no objects in front of your subject.

Solution . During first 60 secondsof d e v e l o p m e n t ,h a n d l e print gently;hold it onlY by its wide white border, and do not wave or bend it.
