22-Oct-2010 10:13 AM Good news About a week ago I noticed Nokia released a new release version of its maps. Last update I noticed was back around May 14 2010 with version 0.1.24.114 Since about 16 October 2010 the version available has been the new 0.1.25.114 Want to install updated Ovi Maps manually? Read on. This is for those who have trouble with Nokia's applications, such as Ovi Suite (or those that would just prefer not to use it). If you normally get your maps through Nokia's Ovi Suite or any other Nokia application and are happy with it, please continue using the same method as you normally would - the procedure below is not necessary.
Minimum requirements * A version of Nokia Ovi Maps 3 (or later) is needed on the phone * A MicroSD card in your phone with enough free space (or a phone with enough free space if it doesn't use MicroSD) Upgrading maps to the new version 1) Connect the phone to the computer in Mass Storage mode (not PC Suite mode). Alternatively you may find file operations faster if you put your MicroSD card in a USB card reader. Then return it back to the phone when you are done. 2) Back-up your cities folder on your MicroSD card to another location (DVD, computer, external hard drive, etc). Just in case. 3) Now go ahead and delete the cities folder and qf file on the (root of) your memory card. (Make sure the MicroSD card is in the phone if it isn't already). Now run the Ovi Maps application on your phone once (so that it can re-build the cities folder and its sub-folders, along with the qf file). Now you have a clean folder structure with no maps. Exit the application. You are now ready to manually install the latest Nokia maps! All files below are direct off Nokia's official Gate5 server(s). (Gate5 is a company Nokia acquired some time ago) Each continent requires both the map itself and the ClientIndex file (or files) for offline searches. Maps for every continent are listed below. Each continent covers every country Nokia offer. ----
Asia map Extract contents of file to cities\diskcache (overwrite / replace files if prompted) IndexAsia (for searching addresses & Points Of Interest offline) Extract contents of file to cities\diskcache\ClientIndex(create ClientIndex folder if necessary. Overwrite/ replace files if prompted)

To all continents requires an 8GB MicroSD card (or phone storage) with most of its space free. The cities folder fills to over 6GB on your phone with everything installed. Australia/Oceania and Africa are both relatively small (about 130 MB each) compared to Asia (ab out 1 GB), America (ab out 1.6 GB) and Europe (ab out 2 GB). Larger when the zip files are extracted onto your phone. Enjoy Nokia's newest 0.1.25.114 maps!

Lots of countries are not covered by Nokia's maps and I'm sure they are aware of it. Japan is not even offered at all these days, for example. I don't think Mauritius was ever offered but I could be mistaken. Navteq (owned by Nokia) has its strengths and weaknesses. http://europe.nokia.com//product-/maps-/pricing-and-coverage/map-coverage-tool If we select Maps 3.0x in the first drop-down, on the next drop-down we can select Maps #41 which should be the next major revision of Nokia's maps (looks like they don't show the current #25 maps release there). If we select Mauritius we get "No coverage information availab le" so Mauritius is probably best served with third-party GPS apps. Anyway, it's probably a good idea to check coverage before buying a Nokia phone specifically for its GPS capabilities.

How can I selected countries map and transfer to memory card? Can I two separate countries maps and extract o memory card? Can you provide like to UAE maps? Please advise

United Arab Emirates You can as many countries or continents as you please. They will be added to your phone with no limit and no restriction (as long as you have enough storage space).

Nokia Discussions - newest No… * Maps always need to be extracted to cities\diskcache * Voices always need to be extracted to cities\diskcache\voices * Index files need to be extracted to cities\diskcache\ClientIndex (create the ClientIndex folder if it's not there) Overwrite any files if it asks you (mostly folder structure and a few identical files). The rest is additions. It's as simple as that. United Arab Emirates is listed under 'Asia' in Ovi Maps, so you need the Asian Index file to search offline in this region. If you are unsure which Index file you need for your country, them all; they are fairly small and it doesn't hurt to have them all so every country you might like to install can be searched offline. Oman Please scroll up this topic for India map. I'm not sure where you can find 3.06 beta. Perhaps check Nokia Beta Lab s. I've never tried Nokia's pre-release software. Have fun.

You will still be prompted to buy a license if you want voice navigation with the E63. Version 3.03 of the Nokia Ovi Maps application (the one with free navigation) has not been released for Nokia E63 (in fact Nokia dropped all for E63 on its web site; if you look now it's not even listed as a model that you can install the Ovi Maps application on whereas in the past it was). You may use it as an electronic map (without voice navigation) for free, though.

To all continents requires an 8GB MicroSD card (or phone storage) with most of its space free. The cities folder fills to over 6GB on your phone with everything installed. Australia/Oceania and Africa are both relatively small (about 130 MB each) compared to Asia (ab out 1 GB), America (ab out 1.6 GB) and Europe (ab out 2 GB). Larger when the zip files are extracted onto your phone. Enjoy Nokia's newest 0.1.25.114 maps!

Lots of countries are not covered by Nokia's maps and I'm sure they are aware of it. Japan is not even offered at all these days, for example. I don't think Mauritius was ever offered but I could be mistaken. Navteq (owned by Nokia) has its strengths and weaknesses. http://europe.nokia.com//product-/maps-/pricing-and-coverage/map-coverage-tool If we select Maps 3.0x in the first drop-down, on the next drop-down we can select Maps #41 which should be the next major revision of Nokia's maps (looks like they don't show the current #25 maps release there). If we select Mauritius we get "No coverage information availab le" so Mauritius is probably best served with third-party GPS apps. Anyway, it's probably a good idea to check coverage before buying a Nokia phone specifically for its GPS capabilities.

United Arab Emirates You can as many countries or continents as you please. They will be added to your phone with no limit and no restriction (as long as you have enough storage space).

Nokia Discussions - newest No… * Maps always need to be extracted to cities\diskcache * Voices always need to be extracted to cities\diskcache\voices * Index files need to be extracted to cities\diskcache\ClientIndex (create the ClientIndex folder if it's not there) Overwrite any files if it asks you (mostly folder structure and a few identical files). The rest is additions. It's as simple as that. United Arab Emirates is listed under 'Asia' in Ovi Maps, so you need the Asian Index file to search offline in this region. If you are unsure which Index file you need for your country, them all; they are fairly small and it doesn't hurt to have them all so every country you might like to install can be searched offline. Oman Please scroll up this topic for India map. I'm not sure where you can find 3.06 beta. Perhaps check Nokia Beta Lab s. I've never tried Nokia's pre-release software. Have fun.

You will still be prompted to buy a license if you want voice navigation with the E63. Version 3.03 of the Nokia Ovi Maps application (the one with free navigation) has not been released for Nokia E63 (in fact Nokia dropped all for E63 on its web site; if you look now it's not even listed as a model that you can install the Ovi Maps application on whereas in the past it was). You may use it as an electronic map (without voice navigation) for free, though.
