IMPORTANT QUOTATIONSFROM HOLES BY LOUIS SACHAR
1) A lot of people don’t believe in curses. A lot of people don’t believe in yellow-spotted lizards either, but if one bites you, it doesn’t make a difference whether you believe in it or not. This quotation was mentioned in the novel during Stanley’s early days at Camp Green Lake. This was mentioned in chapter four. This quotation is important because it describes how fatal yellow-spotted lizards can be. This tells me, certain things in life we may not want to believe in but unfortunately we still have to face the fact that it is true.
2) His muscles and hands weren’t the only parts of his body that had toughened over the past several weeks. His heart had hardened as well. This quotation refers to Stanley. This was mentioned when he was writing a letter to his parents. This quotation describes Stanley’s development at Camp Green Lake after several weeks of being there. This is an important quote because it explains how his valuable time at Camp Green Lake changes his physically and as well as emotionally. This quote tells me that at times, we may even gain more for the same thing at the same time, but we may not realize it.
3) “if only if only,” the woodpecker sighs. “The bark on the tree was just a little bet softer.” While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely, He cries the moo-oo-oon, “if only, if only” This quotation is one of the most important quotation in this whole novel. This is a pig lullaby. It was repeated several times in this novel. It appeared first when Stanley could hear his father singing it to him in his mind. This maybe even considered a memorable lullaby to Stanley as his dad always sang it to him. It shows that these few sentences are extremely important to Stanley as it is very memorable.
