HISTORIA DE LOS INDIOS YARUROS (PUME): Estos no tienen nombre en sí, se les llama Pume o Yaruros. Están distribuidos en los llanos de Apure, entre los ríos Arauca y Cinaruco Su población es de aproximadamente unos 1500 Su idioma es independiente. Tienen varios tipos de viviendas, la más sencilla es un muro-techo; la más duradera es rectangular u ovalada, con techo de paja. En la agricultura, la tala y quema, es incipiente; practican la recolección de frutos naturales. Hacen cestería y cerámica, tejen hamacas y fabrican curiaras. De su Jerarquía A los caciques se les denomina (Capitán) tienen una autoridad limitada y solamente dentro de su grupo. Entre sus ritos los Yaruro tienen shamanes (quienes le llaman músico) masculinos y femeninos, quienes se encargan de curar las enfermedades cantando y bailando. Cuando alguien de la tribu muere el difunto es enterrado con la mayoría de sus bienes; y, al parecer, hacen un entierro secundario. Además cuando muere uno de ellos por cualquier causa la casa que habitaba la destruyen o la deshabitan, parte de sus costumbre, aunque en el presente muy poco se lleva a cabo.
