To analyze the quotes distinctly, let me define the keywords found from the questions. The first keywords are the general patterns. “1General patterns‟ are defined as the basic of repeated rules or trends”. The second keyword is knowledge. “2„Knowledge‟ is about what is known in a particular field or in total, facts and information”. “A specific thing that characterized of its kind or illustrating a general rule is the meaning of 3„particular examples‟”. “4„Understanding‟ is defined as the ability to learn, judge, make decisions, intelligence or sense”. From the phrase given in the question, it says that only general patterns give us knowledge and only particular examples give us understanding. In my opinion, understanding and knowledge is interdependent with each other. Since knowledge is gained by seeing general patterns, it is very rare to gain understanding without having some knowledge even though particular examples are given. But, there are certain situations that cause them to be unrelated with each other. So, to what extent the consistency of only general patterns give us knowledge and only particular examples give us understanding? the knowledge. To answer the question, I will use Mathematics, human sciences and the arts as the area of knowledge in this essay. In Natural science, theories are made up by observing the patterns from an experiment. The fact that Science use the inductive reasoning where we gain the knowledge by beginning with specific observations, then detect the patterns and regularities. After that, we came up with hypothesis and finally end up with the general conclusions and theories. For example, the theories of the second Newton‟s law of motion which is force applied to a body is proportional to acceleration produced by the body. This means that when force increased, the acceleration will be also increased. It is believed that this knowledge is made by Newton when he observed the patterns of a body after he conducted several experiments after discovered about the effects of gravity after watching an apple falls. Then, with this second law of motion, Newton also came up with a formula which F=ma. This theory was taught by the teachers to the students at school. The students here who are playing the role as a knower will never understand this theory or knowledge if the teachers do not show them the particular examples about how the formula can be used. Therefore, the particular examples, that show how the formula can be used, play such important role in order for students to understand and then they can apply the formula from Newton in daily life. Science is about the study of natural phenomena in daily life. So, for example, when a car is accelerating, the students will understand why that car accelerates because of particular examples had been shown to them. However, in arts, there is no knowledge gained through seeing the general pattern of visual arts because there is no difference between general pattern and particular examples. They seem to carry the same meaning. This means that the particular examples and general pattern seems like they are overlapping with each other. The art is all about a form of first

He was one of the prominent figures in finding out how the pattern of the virus looks like. The pattern of the viruses is just the same as the particular examples of the viruses made by glass that are created by the Luke Jerram. He wanted to show the beauty of the viruses like 6HIV, SARS, SMALLPOX and others when he represented the viruses that in a glass-like form. Based on the sense of perception, people will never understand the beauty of viruses. Their past experiences were telling them that there is no beauty in viruses because viruses are the only thing that harms any objects including human. With the existence of this type of art, people will no longer see virus as a beautiful thing even though he made it to look very nice and beautiful. Therefore, the particular examples of viruses represented in the glasslike form will not give understanding of the arts to the people who have past experience with harmful viruses. This example shows that the general pattern and particular examples of the viruses are overlapping with each other and people do not get either knowledge or understanding through seeing patterns and particular examples if they do not know the values of the arts. In Mathematics, the general pattern gives the knowledge to us and with the help of particular examples, we are able to see clearly and understand what actually the knowledge is about. In the knowledge continuum, the position of Mathematics lies on the most objective area of knowledge. The truth in mathematics is self evident and it is very objective. The pattern in prime number system in math could act as an example of general pattern where prime number is the sequence of numbers that cannot be divided with any other number except with one and the number itself. Mathematicians come out with general conclusion that all odd numbers are prime numbers because when seeing the general pattern of numbers like 3, 5, 11, 17 and so on. The meaning of the general pattern itself is the basic of repeated rules, and the rules here is that prime numbers cannot be divided with any numbers except with the number itself or one. The odd number seems like fulfill the demand in the general pattern of prime number. However, by seeing a particular example, where it is illustrating the general rules shows that there are some odd numbers that can be divided with other numbers. For example, number 75. It can be divided with 25, 15, 5 and 3. This tells us that 75 is not a prime number. So, this is how the particular example gives us understanding because we could be able to differentiate and claim that 75 is not a prime number. We are able to differentiate because we understand. Therefore, after that the mathematician came out with the particular theories that not all the odd numbers are prime numbers. However, there are also general patterns in Mathematics that do not give the knowledge but give something else that is also useful to the knower. That is idea. So, first let us look back at the origin where the exact meaning of idea is found out. “7Idea is defined as the thought to a possible course of action” and is different from the meaning of “knowledgewhat is known in particular field”. For example we can see the general pattern in mathematical induction. In mathematical induction, the knower used the deductive reasoning in order to get some ideas in how to prove a mathematical statement by using mathematical induction. For example, the first step is to let the unknown from the general statement given in the statement be 1. When right hand side equation is equal to the left side equation, the statement is true. Make specific hypothesis, where assume P (k) is true and lastly prove the P (k+1) is true. That is how general pattern prove the statement is true. These steps are useful to all statements in Math that are seeking for evidence whether the statement suggested is true or not. This is how the general pattern gives the idea on how to prove the statement in math. This idea helps the knower to understand better on how it goes when seeing the particular examples of the problems in mathematical induction. However, to some extent the general pattern may not give the knowledge and particular examples may not give understanding in certain areas of knowledge. This is however, there are few cases that general pattern may give something else for instance ideas. In certain areas of knowledge, there are particular examples and general patterns carry the same meaning.
