El adjetivo en grado superlativo se usa para expresar una determinada cualidad en su mayor intensidad posible. Este tipo de adjetivo puede ser relativo, cuando se establece una comparación tácita con otro grupo de elementos (“el Volga es el río más largo de Europa…”), o absoluto, cuando esa comparación no puede tener lugar (“Juan es único”). Hay muchas maneras de formar un adjetivo superlativo, sobre todo cuando es absoluto:
