Welcome to the Spring 2014 Options. We are excited to help you learn something new or do something better. Our courses and activities are stimulating and fun and taught by experienced professionals who enjoy introducing others to their subjects. Why not learn among friends, co-workers and neighbors. There are no exams, no grades, no degrees. Classes are for your own personal enjoyment and growth.

This term we are pleased to offer the new Dental Assistant Program as well as other courses to enhance your skills and fulfill your aspirations. We have added more classes for children. We are also expanding programs for seniors because retirement from work does not mean retirement from learning.

AC2005. Writing for Adults This class is for adults who need help with fundamental writing techniques. While students will review proper sentence structure, punctuation, and grammar, an additional focus will be to develop an action plan, and to write a persuasion paper to enhance their goals and objectives. AR2104. Introduction to Wire WrappingEarrings Wire wrapping is the skill of making jewelry using wire, beads and simple tools. This class will focus on how to properly make loops, wraps and coils using the correct tools. To enhance your proficiency, we will focus on creating earrings of increased difficulty while learning to make a variety of different earwires. You will need your own tools, beads and wire. AR2105. Intermediate Wire Wrapping We are taking your looping, wrapping and coiling skills to the next level. Let's explore bending and shaping wire into several standard yet challenging shapes and links to create jewelry. Along the way we will incorporate freeform wire shaping and use of aluminum wire. BV2203. Grant Writing Workshop This grant writing class is designed to introduce and discuss the eight basic components of a grant proposal for public and private foundations. Each student will be given an opportunity to practice in writing, and to develop each of the eight basic components as well as discuss the six stages of fundraising for a 501c3 non-profit. Students will also be given an opportunity to develop a full fundable grant proposal. The successful student will be required to complete typed homework assignments. BV2204. Starting a 501(c) 3 non-profit This course will discuss four (4) major components for starting a non-profit: (1). Filing the 501(c) 3 forms with the State of Illinois (2). Writing the organizational By-Laws (3). Initial organizational and program designs (4). Board of Directors roles and responsibilities for start-ups. For the final project, each student will have to design, with structure, a non-profit, community-based organization with program services. Eight Week Class. BV2205. Retail Pharmacy Technician If you are a high school senior, young adult or a senior citizen considering a change, this training will get you off to a fast start toward a new career. This eight week class will introduce you to the responsibilities of a community pharmacy technician as well as teach you how to interpret prescriptions for yourselves and your family . BV2223. The Art of Makeup I and II The six-week workshop that teaches makeup application techniques and business skills needed to become a professional makeup artist. These classes offer an intro to mastering professional makeup artistry skills for consumer and or professional applications.

CS2403. Introduction to Excel 2010 In this class, you’ll learn how to create & design a database. Learn to arrange names and addresses into tables and fields, query a database—create queries, print queries, save a query and much, much more. CS2410. Intro to Computers for Absolute Beginners If you have never used a computer and wonder what in the world a mouse has to do with it – then this class is for you. KK2310. CSU Jr. Gents Performing Arts Team (Ages 10-18) Energetic, disciplined and talented boys who like to perform are encouraged to enroll. Instructors of this highly motivated team will prepare and train dedicated in the various aspects of performing arts (character, ethnic, stepping, inspirational, acrobatics, Hip-hop dancing and drama). Team will receive semiprofessional training as they gradually prepare for dance productions, performances, competitions and other events throughout the year (additional fees will be required for team t-shirts, costumes and competitions). KK2302. Introduction to Dance Introduce your preschooler to character dances and basic acrobatic movements. September 22– September 28, 2014 Boston & Newport Cultural Tour ($899 per person-double rate) We make our first stop at the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio to trace our roots by looking to Rock N Roll greats such as the Supremes, the Temptations, Four Tops, Martha and the Vandellas, and more. We continue our quest with an evening tour of Boston to see some of the early Underground revolutionary routes. As we walk the Black Heritage Trail, we intersect with many of the stops along the American Heritage Trail and end up at the African Meeting House and a short talk by one of the guides. We journey to Newport Rhode Island and the historic African-American presence in that community. We several black homes from the early 1700-1800’s and enjoy the history of the slave movement and Underground Railroad in the area. The area features many of the sites of Black American History (a major seaport for the slave trade & also the leader in bringing African tradesmen to America.
