Business letters are written for a specific purpose. They are formal, brief, direct, and include all the necessary information. Frequently business letters are used to request information or order materials.
Six Parts of a Business Letter 1. Heading: Your Business Address City, State, Zip Code Month, Day, Year 2. Inside Address: The name of the business firm or person to whom you are writing Address of the name of business or person whom you are writing City, State, Zip Code 3. Salutation: (The formal style greeting) Dear Sir or Madam Dear Mr. James Ladies and Gentleman: 4. Body: The content or message of the letter
5. Closing: (A formal closing phrase) Sincerely, Yours truly, 6. Signature: Your first and last name should be written four lines below the closing phrase.
In creating your business letter, you will practice adding and deleting text, using the spellcheck option, reviewing what you have written, and submitting the final document. 1)
Using the letterhead you created, type in the heading with your business address and the current date.

Type in the inside address with the teacher’s address below. You may also include the person’s title after the name. For example, Mr. John Jones, President. Veronica Smith, Mercer Middle School, 201 Rommel Avenue, Savannah, Georgia, 31408

Insert salutation or greeting. The formal greeting is always followed by a colon (:). If a specific name is not known, the greeting is Dear Sir or Madam.

Write a letter wishing friends and customers well for the holidays. Indent each new paragraph by pressing the TAB key one time. You will type the following content in your letter: This time of the year offers us a special opportunity to extend our personal thanks to our well-deserved clients, and our very best wishes for the future. And so it is that we now gather together and wish to you a very Happy Anniversary and well wishes for the future. It is hard to believe that we have been business partners for 5 years. We consider you good clients and extend our wishes for prosperity and growth as you embark on new journeys in your business. It is people like you who make being in business such a pleasure. Our business is a source of pride to us, and with customers like you, we find going to work each day a rewarding experience. We tip our glasses to you. Thanks again for a wonderful partnership. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Insert a closing followed by a comma. Only the first word of the closing is capitalized. For example, Yours truly.

Insert your first and last name four lines below the closing.

Perform Spell check on the letter.
8)
Proofread the letter. If needed, make necessary changes.
9)
Have a classmate to read and make any suggested changes.
10)
Save the letter.
