Anecdotal Record Summary Child A and Child F Both Child A and Child F are extremely talkative children. They love to turn to their friends and talk during class. The Grade 4/5 classroom is set up in rows so students are only able to talk when teacher assigns group work. Child A is never sitting in his seat. He is sitting on his feet and facing his peers, or he is standing up and talking to his close friend nearby. I often wonder why the teacher has him seated so close to his best friend because they provide each other with constant distraction all the time. Both Child A and Child F are quite bright in mathematics. Child A is average in literacy, but I am not sure how well Child F is doing in reading and writing. He seems to be always reading, and he is really fascinated by geology and artifacts so he chooses a lot of books that are centered on those subjects. For one of my lessons this semester, I had the students complete a test to see what type of learning style they are: puppy, microscope, beach ball, or clipboard. Child A is a puppy, and Child F is a puppy/microscope. I was not surprised at all by these results because Child A loves to interact with peers, and have the chance to discuss and evaluate problems. Child F is also a
social learner; however, he is also extremely fixated on investigating the past and exploring scientific topics. Through my anecdotal records and lesson plans, I have come to realize that both these learners just need the opportunity to work in groups and learn through self discovery. I know Child F will be extremely interested in my unit because he loves to look at the past and examine artifacts. I know this because he was absolutely obsessed with studying the rocks they had found on a class trip to the Badlands. I also know that Child A would gain a lot from my lessons because he loves to explore through social interaction and classroom debates/discussions. Also, when Child A and Child F were given a RAFT writing assignment, both were completely engaged by the activity. I am very interested to try out some of my Social Studies lessons because I want to see how these two specific learners will react. I think they will respond in a very positive way!
