A reaction paper about “Taxes: Who Benefits? Who Pays?” In 15 October 2015, I attended a curriculum integration forum which was about “Taxes: Who benefits? Who pays?” This was my first forum in ULAB. There were many students and faculty member of our MSJ department who attended the forum. It was organized by MSJ department. The Curriculum integration program was started at 2:00 pm and ends at 4:00 pm. Though it was my first forum, I was very much exited about this. Our seminar hall was decorated very well. Our class teacher was there before the seminar started. When our head of the department arrived in the seminar hall then our seminar started. In the first presentation, Mr. Naimul Karim gave us a presentation about National budget, about taxes, how government spends it, direct tax, indirect tax. He told us about this. He explains many things about taxes. Why should we pay taxes, how government spend vat and taxes money on our countries welfare. If we don’t pay Taxes then what kind of punishment for us. Mr. Naimul Karim showed us a video about if we don’t pay taxes then how we help the businessman to increases their profit. Then Ms. Naima Alam also discusses about and Taxes in very enjoyable way with her story with two friends Mr. Chandu and Mr. Pandu. Chandu was a service holder and Pandu was a businessman. Why Chandu should pay more taxes and why Pandu pay less taxes. How Chandu and Pandu gives their Taxes. No matter how much we earn we have to pay taxes if our income more than 400000 we have to pay 10% Vat, for next 500000 we have to pay 15% tax, next 600000 we have to pay 20% tax, next 3000000 we have to pay 25% tax and on the balance we have to pay 30% tax. She also told us why we should pay and Taxes. Then associate professor Dr. Din Mohammad Sumon Rahman sir presented his presentation on “Taxes: Who benefits? Who pays?” He told us that he also don’t like Taxes. He told us that Albert Einstein also disliked taxes. Then he showed a picture of a quotation of Albert Einstein “The hardest thing to understand in the world is the income tax”. Everyone enjoyed her presentation very much. He also discussed about why we would give taxes. He told us that only 0.94% of the total population of our country playing
taxes. He also discussed about “Tax Heaven” and how it works. He also showed us a video about Tax Heaven. After that there was also a question answer session where some of the students asked their questions to the teachers who presented the seminar and exchange of questions and answer were made between students and teachers. I think that was the most enjoyable part of the whole seminar. It seemed to me very unique and interesting. Then almost 4 p.m. the seminar was over. Above all, I can say that this kind of forum helps us to think openly and also gives us many kinds of information about various kinds of things, the current world and also the society. It also helps us on our study. We should attend this kind of seminar.
