Periorbital Ecchymosis ec-key-mosis “Peri:” around eyes. “Ecchymosis:” subcutaneous hematoma 

Occipitofrontalis muscle: attachments: 

Posterior attachment: mostly occipital bone & part of temporal bone -prevents scalp bleeding/infection from going into neck Lateral attachment: mostly zygomatic arches -prevents scalp bleeding/infection from going laterally

Anterior attachment: skin of forehead/eyelids, not bone 



Clinical correlate

Scalp blood can drain into loose connective tissue of eyelids/root nose
