Following are the three areas which selection criteria is focused on: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY a. Bulls must express balance in characteristics of all traits b. Bulls will excel in character of breed - Simmental – Maternal - Red Angus – Calving ease - Black Angus - Carcass c. Performance targets - BW – 5-7% of dams body weight as well as top 50% of the breed for the trait in EPD’s - WW – 50% of the dams body weight at 200 days and top 50% of the breed for WW EPD’s - YW – 1300 lbs – 1550lbs depending on breed – any smaller and larger have proven to be inefficient in production - Density (AYW / Frame score) – expression of muscle – must be greater then 200 to be considered exceptional - Scrotal – minimum of 3 cm larger then breed standards at 13 months - Milk – top 50% of the breed for EPD’s - REA – R/CWT = 1.00 or greater - Backfat – 3 – 7 mm - Marbling – 3% or greater

S I R E R E C O M M E N D AT I O N S Simmental The Simmental sires featured will combine a blend of South African, American, Canadian, German and Swiss genetics. Each are selected for a different array of traits, which provides a variety of attributes for your breeding program. The Swiss genetics are highly maternal genetics, providing milk and frame to beef cattle. The German/Fleckvieh genetics provide moderation in frame, increased efficiency and an increased focus on beef production. South African genetics were developed from the German Fleckvieh lines. By utilizing their beef traits, cattle were selected with the ability to adapt to their environment through improvements to feet and legs, volume and performance.
